<image:title>About - Curtis Mohrhardt</image:title>
<image:caption>Curtis graduated from Conestoga College’s three year woodworking technology advanced diploma program in 2014 and Sheridan College’s four year furniture design baccalaureate degree program in 2020. In and between the two schooling periods were many jobs in the woodworking field. Curtis’ vision, as a designer and maker, is to create unique solid wood furniture. Ultimately, his main goal is to challenge himself to push his wood joinery skills and designs for each new project.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Completed in 2019, the North York Women’s Shelter (NYWS) Reception Bench was the culminating project for third year. My class and I, as well as the third year ceramic majors, were tasked to design furniture and ceramic pieces for the North York Women's Shelter. This bench was a solo project and I took on the immense task of designing and fabricating this eight foot piece myself. Each spindle is turned by hand, all 36.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My fascination for Windsor chairs began to overflow in the beginning of third year when tasked to design and build a chair. The intention was to marry the formality of Ming Dynasty dining chairs and the playful splay of the Windsor into one product. In the end the design came to be faithful to the Windsor, while keeping aspects of the Ming Dynasty form.</image:caption>

<image:caption>For the final year of my bachelor’s degree, my thesis was an investigation into the union of furniture and philosophy; how longevity of material, beauty of form, and ergonomic comfortability could harness the ideal to achieve perfection. The main characteristic of this chair are the legs and spindles are one piece as thru-tapered mortise and tenon joints. As the chair is used the joints tighten in the mortise making it stronger over time. Every piece in the chair is essential to its strength.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Wood Screen Stair Covering - Mid-Century Modern Stair Covering</image:title>
<image:caption>Our first ever project for a client looking to cover their staircase. After remodelling their stairs and taking out their bannister, our client was looking to incorporate a simple and elegant solution to complete the space. After giving us an idea of what it is they were looking for, mid-century modern stair covering, Tetome House was given full design and fabrication authority to make the space unique. Trusting our design and fabrication instinct allowed Tetome House to create something elegant and beautiful, while also remaining strong enough to use as a support while using the stairs.</image:caption>

For a construction company in the Mississauga area, the pair of chairs were meant to inhabit their front entrance. Steam bent solid walnut, hand cut and machined joinery to fit the back support. We covered the window in red oak, to match existing built-ins, and added some character. A small hole was drilled to allow a pot light to shine, and some slots were added to allow for air to pass through.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Tetome House was approached by The Cannon, located in Hamilton, to help improve their new storefront. The first two projects were to increase their seating so we repurposed some old church pews, and made a round counter top to maximize the space. The last project was to beautify their creamer station. To match the red oak church pews we made the station out of red oak as well. The stools next to the counter were not done by us.</image:caption>

Simone was later approached by AZURE magazine to feature the new ATTIC space in their May/June issue in 2024. All photos of the space in the magazine and on this website are by Riley Snelling. Tetome House was named in the magazine as the fabricators of the stools. Stay tuned as Simone and I are in the process of making the ATTIC Stool a small batch product! Summer 2024. <image:caption>A client in Toronto was looking to have an outdoor table & a pair of benches made to match their existing Ipe (Brazilian walnut) deck. They were looking for a simple slab-style design and it was up to us to engineer an effective joinery solution as this wood is too dense and oily to glue together. What emerged was a simple design that could be screwed together (with stainless screws) and will still allow rain to not pool on the boards.</image:caption>
